And you or someone you know, has made a fitness/health resolution but is not sure where to start From talking to people over the holiday period, I have learned that a lot of people don’t know where to start when it comes to this whole gym thing The gym can be an intimidating place for a lot of people and from the sounds of it, this is usually due to the limitless options in the gym and most people are not sure what to do with all the equipment My advice❓Download an app called JEFIT. It’s a FREE app that does the following πŸ‘‡πŸΎ . βœ… Gives detailed instructions on how to complete thousands of exercises βœ… Provides videos/gifs of people performing the exercise βœ… Categorizes exercises based on muscle group, making it easier for you to make every day bicep day πŸ˜‚ This app helped me tremendously (and still does) when I was starting off in the gym and I think it would help eliminate a lot of the anxiety people may have when they step into a gym πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ To all those out there embarking on a new (or for those resuming) fitness journey, I wish you the best of luck & always remember, you are capable of anything. RESISTANCE TRAINING OR CARDIO❓ β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Resistance training or Cardio? This is a common debate among gym goers. There seems to be a belief (I consider it a "fallacy") that men "lift weights" and women "do cardio". I've had a lot of guys say, "I don't do cardio, I find it very boring". Likewise, I’ve heard countless women say "I don't lift because I don't want to get bulky". But here is the reality πŸ‘‡πŸΎ - πŸ‘‰πŸΎThe definition of "cardio" is anything that spikes your heart rate. You do not have to run on the treadmill or hop on a spin bike to do "cardio". High Intensity Resistance Training, Circuit Training, Drop Sets and Super Sets are all forms of cardo as all these forms of exercise spike your heart rate without you having to do what you consider "traditional cardio" πŸ‘‰πŸΎWhen it comes to lifting weights, the biggest benefit you can get from lifting weights is actually related to bone density. Aesthetics aside, resistance training also helps immensely with weight loss and here is why. When it comes to "body composition", your body is comprised of both "fat" and "fat-free tissue", this is what people call β€œBody Fat Percentage”. "Fat-free tissue refers to muscle, bone, water and other things. What you need to take away from this is that the more muscle you have, the less fat tissue you have So, in summation, when deciding if you should do "cardio" or "resistance training" (weight lifting), the answer is you should do both and neither of them have to be boring. Drop sets, circuit training (that includes resistance training e.g. dumbbell, barbell, resistance bands etc.) and super sets are a great form of resistance training (that also spike your heart rate).
